On Sunday night the former UFC featherweight confirmed recent rumors that he had been released by the promotion. Carlyle’s departure means he joins the likes of “The Ultimate Fighter Brazil” Season 3 winner Antonio Carlos Junior, women’s bantamweight Sarah Moras.
Hunter 'Spike' Carlyle (born May 06, 1993) is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the Featherweight. He is most known for his time spent fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Our own Luke Thomas, formerly the editor in chief of Bloody Elbow and now a senior editor with MMA Fighting will be a featured analyst on Spike TV's MMA Uncensored tonight at 11 p.m. Luke will have a short news and notes segment on the show which is on its second episode.
Background[edit]
He started doing karate when he was four years old, later starting wrestling when he was 12. He wrestled for about four years and then started jiu-jitsu. When he was 15, I fell in love with Pride FC and Japanese MMA, and that’s what inspired him to become an MMA fighter.[2]
Mixed martial arts career[edit]
Early career[edit]
Starting his career in 2017, Spike compiled a record of 8–1, fighting for a variety of regional California promotions, most notably for Legacy Fighting Alliance.
Ultimate Fighting Championship[edit]
Carlyle made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night: Benavidez vs. Figueiredo on February 29, 2020 as a late replacement for Steven Peterson against Aalon Cruz. [3] He won the fight via first round TKO. [4]
Carlyle next faced Billy Quarantillo at UFC on ESPN: Woodley vs. Burns on May 30, 2020 in a catchweight bout. He lost the bout via an unanimous decision.[5]
Carlyle faced Bill Algeo at UFC on ESPN: Smith vs. Clark on November 28, 2020.[6] He lost the bout via unanimous decision. [7]
On February 4, 2021, it was announced that Carlyle had been released from his UFC contract.[8]
